Detailed Pikaone Le stick MP3 Player Description & Review
As this player is no longer available we suggest you look at this player instead. Tiny, cool and really good value. Le Stick 128 - is it as much fun as a stick, or is it actually pretty good? The key question about this player is: how does it stack up against the MuVo NX? The answer may be subjective so we shall try to stick to the facts and let you decide which you prefer based on the facts alone. Lets start at the beginning: The Pikaone Le Stick comes with 128MB of RAM - so the number of tunes you can hold at any one time is limited to about 2 albums worth, which is approx. 128 minutes of MP3 music - some companies claim this to be 3 CDs worth, but most albums are about 60 mins, not about 40 mins.
Unlike earlier RAM models Le Stick comes with a built-in LCD screen so that you can navigate freely around your tunes It shares the advantage of all RAM players in that you can comfortably go jogging without the music skipping or your jukebox breaking. Hands up if you want to go jogging for more than 2 hours anyway. Thought not. If you're a marathon runner this might help you improve your time as you race to get to the end before you run out of music .... it could happen .... Hmm, anyway, Le Stick, 128MB RAM: not so much music storage - fine if you don't mind swapping which tracks you have on your unit each day, or you only have 2 albums, or only like 2 albums, but is that all Le Stick can do? No. It actually works as an accomplished USB RAM drive too. What does that mean? It means that you can Le Stick it in a USB port on a computer and copy files onto it. Again, up to 128MB of data (providing you haven't filled it with music instead, although to be fair, even if you did have music on it and changed your mind at work because you had to bring a huge file, or set of files home to work on them, you could just delete the music first). There are some nice touches that make this a better USB drive than most: You can password protect the drive (with a 4 digit password) so that if you have sensitive information and your Le Stick is lost or stolen the data files will not fall into your enemy's hands. There is also a 'write-protect' switch that will stop you inadvertently copying/ overwriting data or music on your Le Stick. Little things like this may seem quite small, possibly even insignificant, until the time comes when you need them. Battery news Once again the battery is included so there are no embarrassing moments if you bought one as a present and forgot to get a battery too. Having said that, Pikaone claim Playtime 6 - 8 hours of MP3 continuous Playback. You may get more than 6 hours battery life if the usage is broken up into 2 hour stints. Other Stuff The unit can also record voice (format 64Kbps ADPCM (WAV) memo); no driver required for MS Windows 2000, XP, ME, MAC OS9. Mac OS 10. X, USB (Driver included for MS Windows 98SE MusicMatch Jukebox mastering software included). File/Folder Display; 32.8 long file name and folder structure - name of artist/ track etc. displayed; Memory Status Display total memory and available memory size; Equalizer 5-presets: Normal / Pop / Rock / Jazz / Classic; Play Mode: Normal / Repeat 1 / Repeat all All round out a well-thought-out, not too shabby 128MB player. It does everything it should and its relatively inexpensive. If you want a USB Drive RAM player with the right features at the right price then Le Stick is the player for you.
