The iRiver H320 aka ihp320 improves on the iRiver ihp120 and ihp 140 models by adding a large, full colour 2" TFT display and the ability to transfer data to it from any other USB device like a digital camera.

The H320 and H340 are almost the same player with different capacity (the h320 is the "lite" version, the h340 comes with more accessories included). A full review of the range can be read on this page.

20 GB is the capacity of this player and where the 20 part of the H320 name comes from. 20GB will allow you to store approximately 330 hours of MP3s or 350 hours if you chose to store all you music as the even-more compressed WMA (in America, iRiver, or possibly their distributors, are claiming that the H320 will "play 600 hours of WMA" - its not clear what happens after 600 hours. We have to assume that they meant to say it will "hold 600 hours of WMA".

iRiver H320 Info

  • Large colour screen
  • USB 2.0 & USB host function - copy pix direct from digital camera via usb
  • Recharge via USB
  • Record music from live sources
  • Line-out for high Quality output to speakers, etc.
  • NB: Lite version

Regardless of what they meant the 600 hour claim is nonsense as you have to squash the music down to 64Kbps, instead of the less drastic 98Kbps. It can be done, but the music is too distorted to enjoy see WMA for more information on how this works).

You can get about the same number of real hours - i.e. 350ish - of music if you use Ogg Vorbis too. Lovely Ogg.

Cost per GB is £18.45 which is not bad. For some people the H320 will be ideal - it's not just an MP3 player and it's by no means a toy.

It's slim enough, it's fairly light and its got a lot of features that photographers in particular would love. For more information on those features and capabilities click here.
