Detailed Archos AV480 MP3 Player Description & Review
This model has been superceded by the Archos AV500 Pocket Video RecorderThe AV480 boasts 80GB of capacity; programmable video recording; video playback and an MP3/ WMA Jukebox and audio recorder. 80GB!The individual players in this range (AV420 20GB and AV480 80GB) all share the same capabilities and features. If you want a full review of the things that these, essentially, the same jukeboxes have in common then read a thorough review of the AV400 series on this page Good lord. 80GB in your pocket ... we only have 1 computer with more capacity and it's a server. Without conducting any experiment to prove this, our server will not fit in any normal pocket.
It won't record from the telly either without buying an expensive series of add-ons. The AV480 will do both. The AV480 is slimmer and lighter than the AV380. It can only record to WAV, not directly to MP3 and it cannot record commercial DVDs (which the AV300 can), but as you would expect from a newer generation the overall package is sleeker and more polished. 80GB of space roughly means that you can store or record 1200+ hours of MP3 music or up to about 320 hours of video - that's right, about 170 full length movies. This is a good jukebox. It's well put together. It has nice features and capabilities. It's not just a fancy gadget, it is a practical piece of hardware for the home and traveling. This is only the tip of the iceberg. That's about 5 months! Alternatively, if you were to watch 8 hours a day of video, 7 days a week, it would take you 3 weeks to watch the full contents of the AV380. In a world where the other jukebox models appear to get more and more similar, this range stands out. To get 80GB worth of programmable recorded video and TV, click below.
