This range of MP3 players has been superceded by players such as the Archos AV700 and the Archos AV500 Pocket Video Recorder.

The Archos AV 140, or JBM 140. Ho ho ho. 40 GB. The power!!!! Called, by turns, the AV 140 Jukebox, JBM 140, and various derivatives.

How does the AV 140 differ?

First things first: the Archos AV140 is no longer available as a base unit only. All AV 140s now come with a DVR100 as standard, inlcuded in the price.

Simple: The Archos AV 140 has 40GB of storage space. That translates as (approximately) 80 hours of video that you can carry around with you to watch as and where you please.

The 40GB unit offers a better price per MB too for a range that is already great value. £8.99 per GB. Pretty good when you think of the video capabilities.

The Archos AV140 has USB2.0 as standard, as for all AV100 series. I.e. the JBM 140 has a fast connection for transferring videos and digital photographs (and music) too and from your Jukebox.

Like all Archos Jukebox models this unit is recognised by your computer as an additional hard drive.

All the capabilities of the AV120, but with double the capacity - this is one nice machine.

The batteries for the AV140 should last about 7 hours for music playback. It is best to do any other type of playing or recording plugged into the mains as the other features generally require a lot more power.

The inclusion of the DVR100 as part of the package rounds out a nice deal. We used to recommend that everyone who bought an AV140 bought a DVR100 anyway, but now you don't have to. You can still look at the DVR100 page to get the full skinny on what the DVR100 does, how useful it is, etc.
