Detailed Archos AV120 + DVR MP3 Player Description & Review
This range of MP3 players has been superceded by players such as the Archos AV700 and the Archos AV500 Pocket Video Recorder. The Archos AV 120, AV120, or JBM 120. This Jukebox's predecessor was the most exciting thing to happen in the world of portable entertainment since the Walkman, but this is another step-up.The MMJB20, the AV120 and the AV140 have a lot of similar styling and features. The features that they have in common are discussed and reviewed on our detailed Archos AV120 and AV140 review page. There is another link to that page at the bottom of this one if you want to see the Archos AV120's specifics first. How do the MMJB20 and the AV120 contrast? The Archos AV120 is USB2.0 as standard for a start, so there are some internal workings that are different to the MultiMedia Jukebox 20. Like all Archos Jukebox models this unit is recognised by your computer as an additional hard drive. The USB 2 connection means that the Audio Video 120 Multi Media unit is finally able to load and replace files with the right kind of connection speed as standard. A USB2.0 expansion pack is available for the original MultiMedia Jukebox, of course, but its also nice to have it built-in.
If your PC only has USB 1.1 then don't worry because USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with USB 1.1, but you lose the USB 2.0 transfer speed - i.e. it will take you hours rather than seconds/ minutes to perform your transfers. You can upgrade your PC to USB 2.0 or FireWire with a PCI card available here (or see the accessories below). These are relatively small differences for a model that looks so similar. The small step upgrades tell their own story: the AV120 represents an evolution from the MMJB20, which was in itself a revolution. The batteries for the AV120 should last about 7 hours for music playback. It is best to do any other type of playing or recording plugged into the mains as they generally require a lot more power. We recommend that everyone who has an AV120 also has a DVR100 module (see accessories below) to enable them to record video when and where they want. [UPDATE - the AV120 now comes with DVR. No Separate purchase necessary] Buy Modules and MultiMedia Jukebox together and get money back (money refunded after purchase). See DVR Module, Camera Module or Card Reader Module for more information on the money back offer.
